BIO:

Coach Mike Day is entering his eighth year coaching baseball for North Paulding High School.

Coach Day and his wife, Kelli, who is serving her tenth year as a principal in the Paulding County School District and is currently in her third year as principal at Nebo Elementary, are blessed to have three wonderful children. Makenzie, the oldest, is teaching special needs classes at Central Carrollton in addition to coaching softball and basketball. Ginnabeth is in her first year at Tennessee Wesleyan University playing Lacrosse for the women's program and finally, Easton, who is eight, is attending third grade at Russom Elementary.

The Day family is originally from Troy, Ohio.  They have lived in Dallas for fifteen years now, moving here at the time because of Coach Day's opportunity to work as a professional baseball scout for the Colorado Rockies.  Coach Day says that baseball has been very good to him over the years... "I was fortunate enough to have been selected by the Montreal Expos to play minor league baseball before an arm injury ended my playing career." (Coach Day's roommate with the West Palm Beach Expos was Randy Johnson). Prior to that, he attended Oklahoma State University playing baseball there for four years. (Former big leaguers Pete Incaviglia, John Farrell and Mike Hennerman were teammates). During his time there, OSU teams played in four College World Series.  Coach Day says "Roger Clemens struck me out looking in my only pinch hitting appearance in the 1982 College World Series. I was too terrified to swing."

In 1984, Coach Day had the opportunity to represent the USA in the World Baseball Championship held in Cuba. He and his teammates (including Barry Bonds, Mark Gardner and Chad Krueter) earned a bronze medal in that tournament. In 1995, he was selected to the 50th Anniversary All-time College World Series team for the best catching performance in College World Series history.  Coach Day invites you to "look up the team... I'm the only guy on that team you have never heard of". In 1996, he was elected into the OSU Baseball Hall of Fame as well, going in with Tim Pugh and Jeremy Burnitz that year.  Coach Day says that baseball has allowed him the chance to travel to many places including Cuba, Curacao, Alaska, California, Hawaii and Texas as both a player and coach, and has given him many blessings for which he is quite thankful.

After earning his Bachelor's degree in Math Education from Oklahoma State University, Coach Day completed his Master's degree at Kent State University where he coached for current Georgia Tech head coach, Danny Hall.  Coach Day has had the opportunity to teach at the middle and high school level for over seventeen years, beginning his career teaching science in Eloy, Arizona.  Upon moving back to Ohio, he spent one year teaching math and science in West Liberty, Ohio.  With the chance to head home, he taught Algebra I and II for five years in Troy, Ohio.  He is currently in his twelfth year in the Paulding County School system where he teaches freshman and sophomore mathematics.
